The Trouble at Trollhalsen -
a four game linked Shiver Horror RPG Epic

We dared to explore Trollhalsen, an oil rig in the North Sea that hid a terrifying secret beneath its waves. Teams reactivated the drills, only to uncover the chilling truth of what lurked in the depths and the mind-bending force that threatened to consume everyone. Survival depended on working in tandem with other groups and confronting whatever was unfolding in the cold depths of the North Sea.

This multi-game immersive Shiver Epic took place over the course of a full day and was designed to both test and thrill. Four separate games of Shiver ran during the event, with each participant assigned to one of them for a 5–6 hour story. The twist was that this was a Shiver EPIC: actions in one game had consequences for the other three, and their actions in turn shaped your story.

Players were split into four teams on the Trollhalsen Oil Rig:

  • Drill Team – tasked with getting the drill moving and producing some of that sweet black pay dirt.
  • Support Team – responsible for keeping the rig itself running: power, water, heat, light—everything not tied to the drill.
  • Science Team – analysing oil and biological samples, investigating why this rig was so unusual.
  • Security Team – ensuring the others could work safely and in line with Lancelot Industries standards.
